Double roller blinds, also called dual roller blinds or day and night blinds, put two blinds on one bracket system. The usual pairing is a sunscreen at the front so you keep the view and cut glare during the day, and a blockout behind it for privacy and darkness at night. Each blind runs independently, so you use whichever one the moment calls for.
They are the answer to the question every sunscreen buyer asks: what about at night? And the answer to the question every blockout buyer asks: what about the view? We make them to your measurements, DIY online or measured and fitted in Melbourne.
How double roller blinds work
A double bracket holds two tubes, one slightly in front of and above the other, so both blinds roll down in the same window. Each has its own chain on the side you choose, or each has its own motor. The fabrics sit close together, so there is no bulky gap between them and the look from the room is a single clean line.
Because the two tubes stack, a double bracket is deeper than a single one. Inside a window recess it needs enough depth to sit clear of the glass and any handles. Where the recess is shallow, the blind is face fitted on the architrave or wall above the window, which also improves light control at the edges.
Fabric combinations
Sunscreen plus blockout is the standard and covers most rooms. Light filtering plus blockout is the alternative for a window that does not need a view, such as a bathroom or a bedroom facing a fence: soft light through the day, darkness at night, and no see-through in either direction.
Two sunscreens of different openness, or a sunscreen and a light filtering fabric, are less common but work for living spaces where darkness is never the goal. The colours do not have to match. Many people run a dark sunscreen for better view-through with a pale blockout that suits the room.
Where double rollers make sense
Bedrooms with a view or a street frontage are the first place. Living rooms that double as a TV room, where you want daylight most of the time and a dark room for a film. Apartments where the windows face other apartments: a sunscreen gives daytime privacy and the blockout handles the evening.
They cost more than a single blind because there are two blinds, but less than two separate blinds on separate brackets, and they take up less room on the wall.
Chain or motorised
Chain control gives each blind its own chain, usually both on the same side with one behind the other. Motorised double rollers put a motor in each tube and run both from the one remote, with separate channels so you can drop the blockout without moving the sunscreen. Add a hub and both can run on a schedule: sunscreen down through the afternoon, blockout down at bedtime.

DIY measuring
Measuring for double roller blinds
Same as a single roller, with one extra check: recess depth. Measure from the glass, or from the nearest handle or lock, to the front edge of the recess. If it is shallow, plan on a face fit. For recess fit, give us the smallest width and drop from three measurements each.

Double Roller Blinds questions
What is the difference between double roller blinds and day night blinds?
Nothing. Double roller, dual roller and day and night blinds all describe two roller blinds on one bracket, usually a sunscreen and a blockout.
Will double roller blinds fit inside my window recess?
If the recess is deep enough for the double bracket to sit clear of the glass and handles. Many recesses are too shallow, in which case the blinds are face fitted on the wall or architrave above the window.
Can I choose different colours for the two blinds?
Yes. The sunscreen and the blockout are chosen separately. Many people pick a darker sunscreen for better view-through and a lighter blockout to suit the room.
Can double roller blinds be motorised?
Yes. Each blind gets its own motor and both run from one remote on separate channels, or from a phone through a smart hub.
Can I order double roller blinds online?
Yes. Measure with our guide, including the recess depth, choose both fabrics, and we make and ship them Australia-wide. In Melbourne, book a free measure and quote and we check the recess for you.
