Smart blinds, also called automatic blinds, are motorised blinds connected to your home network. Instead of only a remote, you get an app on your phone, schedules that run by themselves, and voice control through Google Home, Alexa or Apple Home. Close the whole house from the airport. Have the west-facing sunscreens drop every afternoon in summer without thinking about it.
They are not a separate product. Any motorised blind we sell becomes a smart blind by adding a hub, and any existing roller blind with a retrofit motor can do the same. Order online or have us set it all up in Melbourne.
How smart blinds work
Each blind has a battery tube motor that listens for a radio signal from the remote. A Bond Bridge hub plugs into power, joins your Wi-Fi, and learns the same signals. From then on the app on your phone talks to the hub and the hub talks to the blinds. Nothing is rewired and the remote keeps working alongside the app.
The hub handles as many blinds as you have, grouped by room. It also exposes the blinds to Google Home, Alexa and Apple Home, which is where voice control comes from.
Schedules and automations
Schedules are the feature people use most. Set the bedroom blockouts to close at bedtime and open at seven. Set the living room sunscreens to drop through the hottest part of a summer afternoon and rise again for the evening. Group the whole house for a single tap when you leave.
Through the voice assistants you can go further: link the blinds to sunrise and sunset, to a good night routine, or to a smart thermostat so the blinds help with the heat before the air conditioner has to.
New smart blinds or retrofit
For new windows, order roller blinds, double rollers or outdoor blinds motorised and add the hub. For existing roller blinds in good condition, a retrofit motor kit plus the hub gets the same result for less. Measure the tube inside diameter, check it against the motor listing, and fit the motor in about ten minutes per blind.
S-fold curtains join the same system through the curtain motor, so one app runs blinds and curtains together.
What you need to get started
Motorised blinds or retrofit motors, a remote, a Bond Bridge hub, a spare power point near the middle of the house, and Wi-Fi. Charge the motors with the USB-C cable every few months when they tell you to. Everything is in the DIY shop, and in Melbourne we set the hub and app up at install.

Measuring for smart blinds
New blinds measure like any roller blind: recess or face fit, width and drop. For a retrofit, measure the inside diameter of the existing tube and note the blind width and drop. Count the blinds so you know how many motors and channels you need.
