PVC plantation shutters are the shutter we fit most. They cope with water, they suit the standard windows that make up most of a house. If you want shutters in a bathroom, a laundry or above the kitchen sink, PVC is the answer.

Like every shutter in our range, they are measured on site, made to order and fitted by us.

What PVC plantation shutters are made of

The blades, stiles and rails are a solid polymer with a painted finish baked on. Some panels have an internal reinforcing core for extra stiffness, which is how we handle wider panels without the blades bowing. The frame that holds the panels is the same material, so the whole shutter is consistent in colour and behaviour.

PVC shutters for bathrooms, laundries and kitchens

This is where PVC earns its place. A bathroom window gets steam every day, a laundry window gets damp air, and the window above the kitchen sink gets splashed. A fabric blind will mark and most other materials eventually suffer. PVC takes all of it and wipes clean.

Privacy is the other reason. Tilt the blades up and a bathroom gets daylight without the neighbours seeing in.

Panel widths and support

PVC panels have a limit to how wide a single panel can be before the blades start to bow. Wide windows are split into more panels, or fitted with reinforced panels, or a mix of both. On a wide sliding door, bi-fold panels that stack to one side are the usual layout.

PVC shutter colours

PVC shutters come in a range of whites and off-white tones, from a bright white through to warmer and softer shades. White suits most Melbourne interiors and reads cleanly from the street. We bring samples to the measure so you can hold them against the wall and the window frame in your own light.

Why PVC

PVC is the material we fit because it does the whole house. It handles the wet rooms that rule other materials out, it comes in the whites and off-whites most Melbourne interiors want, and on wide windows it is split into more panels or reinforced so the blades stay straight. Every panel tilts the same way and blocks the same amount of light whatever the window.

Caring for PVC shutters

Wipe the blades with a damp cloth, or dust them with a soft brush. In a bathroom a damp wipe is fine as often as you like. Avoid harsh solvents. Hinges and tilt mechanisms need no routine attention; if a blade ever loosens, it can be tightened on site.

DIY measuring

How PVC shutters are measured

We measure on site because a shutter frame has to match the opening exactly and there is no adjusting it afterwards. We check each window for square, measure the reveal depth so the blades clear the glass and any winders, and agree the panel layout in the room.

PVC Plantation Shutters questions

Are PVC plantation shutters waterproof?

They are water-safe. The polymer does not absorb water and the painted finish does not lift in steam, so they suit bathrooms, laundries and kitchens.

How wide can a PVC shutter panel be?

There is a limit before the blades start to bow, so wide windows are split into more panels or fitted with reinforced panels. We plan the layout at the measure.

What colours do PVC shutters come in?

A range of whites and off-white tones. We bring samples to the measure so you can compare them against your walls and frames.

Can I get PVC shutters DIY?

No. All our shutters are measured on site, made to order and fitted by us in Melbourne. The measure and quote is free.
