DIY roller blinds are the same custom made blinds we fit in Melbourne homes, sold direct to you to measure and install yourself. You save the cost of our time on site, and you can order from anywhere in Australia. Roller blinds are the easiest window covering to install, which is why they are the product we recommend DIY customers start with.
Here is how it works, what arrives in the box, and where people go wrong.
How DIY roller blinds work
Four steps. Order free samples and pick a fabric in your own light. Measure each window with our guide and write down width then drop in millimetres. Order online, choosing recess or face fit, chain side and any extras. We make the blind to your sizes and ship it to your door with brackets, screws and instructions.
Before you order, if any measurement feels uncertain, send it to us and we will check it. A few minutes on the phone is cheaper than a remake.
What arrives in the box
The blind, made up on its tube with the fabric, bottom rail and chain fitted. Two brackets, sized for recess or face fit as you ordered. Screws and a chain tensioner for child safety. An install guide. If you ordered a motor, the motor is already in the tube and the remote and charging cable are in the box.
Installing a roller blind
You need a drill, a pencil, a tape measure and a small spirit level. Mark the bracket positions, check they are level, drill pilot holes, screw the brackets on, and clip the blind in. Fix the chain tensioner to the wall so the chain cannot form a loose loop. Most people have the first window done in a quarter of an hour and the rest faster.
Into plasterboard, use the right anchor. Into brick or concrete, use a masonry bit and plugs. Into a timber architrave, pilot holes and the supplied screws are enough. The install guide covers each.
Common DIY mistakes
Measuring once. Windows are rarely square, so measure width and drop at three points each. Mixing up width and drop. Always write width first. Ordering a recess fit for a recess that is too shallow for the bracket, or that has a handle in the way. Forgetting that a double bracket is deeper than a single. And ordering before the samples arrive, then finding the colour looks different on the wall.
None of these are hard to avoid. Read the measuring guide, check twice, and ask us if in doubt.
