Linen curtains are the relaxed, natural look: a slubbed, slightly irregular weave that softens light and suits timber, stone and plaster. They work as a sheer in living spaces and, with a blockout lining, as a bedroom curtain that looks light and performs like a blockout.

We make them in natural linen and in linen look blends, to your track width and drop. Order DIY online or book a free measure and quote in Melbourne.

Natural linen or linen look

Natural linen is a plant fibre. It is soft, breathes, and has the real variation in the weave that people love. It also creases, relaxes over time, and can drop or lift a little with humidity, so a natural linen curtain is a living thing rather than a fixed one. Cleaning is gentle: dry clean or a careful wash, depending on the fabric.

Linen look is a polyester or blended weave made to copy the slub and texture. It holds its drop, does not shrink, and is easier to clean. If you want the look without the upkeep, or the curtain is going in a bathroom or a sunny room, go linen look. Samples are free, and they are the only way to tell the two apart in your own light.

Linen sheers

The most popular linen curtain is a sheer: a light, open weave in white, ivory, oatmeal or sand, hung S-fold from the ceiling. It diffuses glare, hides the street by day, and gives the room a soft, textured glow. Like any sheer it is see-through at night, so in bedrooms pair it with a blockout on a double track or a blockout blind behind.

Lined linen curtains

A heavier linen with a blockout lining gives you a bedroom curtain with the same natural face but full light control and real insulation. The lining also protects the linen from the sun, which extends its life on a north or west window. Thermal lining is the option where you want warmth without full darkness. S-fold suits a lined linen well; pinch pleat gives it a more tailored, traditional hang.

Colours, care and sun

Linen reads best in its natural range: whites, off-whites, oatmeal, flax, sand and soft greys. Stronger colours are available in the blends. Direct sun will fade any fabric over time; natural linen is more sensitive than a blend, so use a lining or choose linen look on a harsh window. Vacuum with a brush head between cleans and follow the care instructions on the fabric.

DIY measuring

Measuring for linen curtains

Measure the track width past the window for stack-back, and the drop from the track position to the floor at three points, using the smallest. Natural linen can settle, so tell us the fibre and the floor finish you want and we allow for it. Ceiling or wall fix, and single or double track.

Linen Curtains questions

Do linen curtains crease?

Natural linen does, and it relaxes with time and use. Linen look blends hold their shape. Many people like the natural crease; if you do not, choose a blend.

Are linen curtains see-through?

Linen sheers are, by day from inside and by night from outside. Heavier linens and lined linens are not.

Can linen curtains be blockout?

Yes. A heavier linen face fabric with a blockout lining sewn behind it is full blockout and insulates well.

How do I clean linen curtains?

Follow the fabric's care instructions. Natural linen is usually dry cleaned or washed gently and hung to dry. Linen look blends are easier. Vacuum with a brush head in between.

Can I order linen curtains online?

Yes. Order free samples, measure with our guide, and we make the curtains and ship them with the track Australia-wide. In Melbourne, book a free measure and quote instead.
