Retrofit roller blind motor with tube and bracket adapters

A retrofit blind motor turns a chain-operated roller blind into a motorised one without replacing the blind. The motor slides into the tube where the chain mechanism was, the blind goes back on its brackets, and from then on it runs from a remote. Add a hub and it runs from your phone or your voice too.

It is the lowest cost route to motorised blinds and a genuine DIY job. Singles, five packs and ten packs are in the DIY shop and ship anywhere in Australia.

Will it fit my blind?

Retrofit motors fit most standard roller blind tubes, but not all. Take the blind down, look at the chain end, and measure the inside diameter of the tube. Compare that with the tube sizes in the motor listing. Then note the blind width and drop: the motor has to lift the weight of the fabric, and a very wide or very long blind may need the larger motor.

If you are not sure, send us the tube measurement and the blind size before you order and we will tell you which kit, or whether the blind is one that should be replaced instead.

How to install a retrofit motor

Unclip the blind from its brackets. Pull the chain mechanism out of the tube end. Push the motor in with its adaptor so it sits square. Clip the blind back on, using the motor-end bracket from the kit if the original does not suit. Charge the motor, pair the remote, and set the top and bottom limits following the guide. About ten minutes per blind once you have done the first.

No wiring and no electrician. The only tools are a screwdriver and, occasionally, a drill if the bracket needs moving.

Power and control

The motor has a built-in rechargeable battery charged with a USB-C cable, which is in the shop if you need a spare. Charge it every few months when it warns you it is low. Control is a 15 channel remote, so one remote runs up to 15 blinds on their own channels plus all together. Add a Bond Bridge hub for the app, schedules and voice through Google Home, Alexa or Apple Home.

What comes in the kit

The motor with its battery, tube adaptors, the motor-end bracket, a charging cable and the instructions. The remote is a separate item so you can run several motors from one remote without paying for one each. The five and ten packs suit a whole house and come with the same parts per motor.
