The choice between a rod and a track shapes how a curtain looks and works. A rod is visible hardware: a pole with decorative ends that the curtain hangs below. A track is hidden hardware: a slim channel with gliders, tucked behind the heading or fixed to the ceiling.

We cut the track or rod to your sizes with the brackets, gliders, hooks or rings, and it comes with the curtains. We do not sell tracks and rods on their own. Order online with your curtains, or have us measure and fit the lot in Melbourne.

Curtain rods

A curtain rod is a metal or timber pole held on brackets, with finials at each end that stop the curtain sliding off. Black, white, brushed silver and brass tones are the common finishes. A centre bracket is added on wider spans.

Rods suit pinch pleat curtains hung on rings with eyes that take the hooks, and rooms where you want the hardware to be part of the look. S-fold curtains need a track.

Curtain tracks

A curtain track is a slim channel with gliders that run inside it. The hooks or S-fold carriers clip onto the gliders and the track stays out of view. Tracks fix to the ceiling for a clean floor-to-ceiling line, or to the wall on short brackets. S-fold tracks have gliders joined at a fixed spacing so the curtain makes an even wave; standard tracks take pleat hooks. White or black.

Double tracks for sheer and blockout

A double track holds two runners on one set of brackets: a sheer on the front and a blockout or lined curtain behind. Each curtain moves on its own, so you get daytime light from the sheer and darkness at night from the blockout.

Motorised curtain tracks

A motorised track has a belt inside the channel driven by a motor at one end. The curtain opens and closes from a remote, an app or a voice assistant. Battery motors avoid an electrician. Many existing S-fold tracks can take a retrofit motor.

Bay windows and corners

A bay window or a corner is where tracks beat rods. A track can be bent to follow the angles so one curtain runs around the whole window. Rods can be joined with corner connectors, but the curtain cannot pass the brackets, so each section needs its own panel.

Choosing a rod or a track

Choose a rod when you want the hardware on show and you are hanging pinch pleat curtains on a straight window. Choose a track for a clean line, a ceiling fix, an S-fold heading, a double layer, a motor or a bay window.

DIY measuring

Measuring for curtain rods and tracks

Measure the width you want the hardware to cover, usually wider than the window so the open curtain stacks on the wall. Note ceiling or wall fix. For a bay window, measure each wall length and the angles.

Curtain Rods and Tracks questions

Should I choose a curtain rod or a track?

A rod for visible hardware and pinch pleat curtains on a straight window. A track for a clean line, ceiling fix, S-fold, double layers, motors or a bay window.

Can a curtain track be fixed to the ceiling?

Yes. Ceiling fixing is the usual choice for S-fold curtains and floor-to-ceiling glass. It hides the hardware and closes the gap at the top.

Can I put pinch pleat curtains on a rod?

Yes. Use rod rings with eyes that take the curtain hooks. Tell us it is a rod so we set the hook height on the curtains.

Do curtain tracks bend around bay windows?

Yes. We bend tracks to your angles so one curtain runs around the bay. Rods need corner connectors and a panel per section.

Can I buy just a curtain track or rod?

Tracks and rods come with the curtains we make and are not sold on their own. Give us the width and the fixing when you order your curtains, choose the finish, and we cut the hardware and ship it with them Australia-wide.
